Maria Callas - 'Vissi d'arte' from 'Tosca' (Paris, 1958)

It's interesting to compare this version of the Callas 'Vissi d'arte' with that at Covent Garden (1964) - which is the first post of this blog.

Maria Callas and Guiseppe Di Stefano - 'Cavalleria Rusticana' (Mascagni)

I was there ... .

But there are moments (a very few and towards the end of this clip) where Maria Callas directly and completely meaningfully expresses the lyrics - in the phrasing, the colour of tone, ... and I heard and understood Nedda's heart-rending betrayal.

And this is something of what I came and hoped to hear and see.
